The Purpose Driven Life
By Rick Warren

These group/personal studies are based on Rick Warren’s book The Purpose Driven Life.  Each chapter of the book is represented by a question for thought and discussion.  We highly recommend that you seek a partner or a small group of people to study these questions with or at least discuss what you have learned and discovered after personal study.  On the road to growth and maturity, there are always people alongside you that encourage, pray, study, challenge and grow with you.  It is never a “lone ranger”event.

May you find the purpose of life and begin living a purpose-driven life as you embark on this journey in community with others.

"Lesson 1 – What On Earth Am I Here For

What is the meaning of life?  Why am I here?  Yes, the age-old questions are alive and continue to be asked.  What’s your answer?  Do you have one?  How do you know it’s correct?  Let us dig, think and share as we seek these answers and more.

"Lesson 2 – You Were Planned for God’s Pleasure

“Bringing enjoyment to God, living for his pleasure, is the first purpose of your life…Anything that brings pleasure to God is worship…Worship is far more than music…Worship is a lifestyle.”[1]  Romans 12:1 says, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.”

"Lesson 3 – You Were Formed for God’s Family

The second purpose for our life is being part of God’s family.  God eternally exists in relationship through the Trinity and desires a personal relationship with us.  In fact, we relate to God as Father, Son and Spirit; the relationship between God and the church is illustrated by marriage, and when we accept Christ through faith we are adopted as sons and daughters into his family

"Lesson 4 – You Were Created to Become Like Christ
The third purpose of life is that we are created to become like Christ.  From Gen. 1:26 we know that we are created in God’s image to be like God or godly (Eph 4:24).  A follower of Christ is called a disciple.  Disciples discipline themselves to become like their teacher or master.  So then, how do we become like Christ?  What is the process?  What is your role as a follower or disciple?

"Lesson 5 – You Were Shaped for Serving God
Do you believe you were put on this earth to make a difference, to make a contribution?  Do you believe, “You were created to add to life on earth, not just take from it?”  (The Purpose Driven Life, pg 227) The Bible teaches that you were created to serve God (Eph 2:10; Jer 1:5), saved to serve God (2 Tim 1:9),  called to serve God (2 Tim 1:9; 1 Pet 2:9), and commanded to serve God (Php 2:5-7).

"Lesson 6 – You Were Made for a Mission
God is at work in the world,  and he wants you to join him.  This assignment is called your mission.  God wants you to have both a ministry in the body of Christ and a mission in the world.  Your ministry is your service to believers, and your mission is your service to unbelievers.  Fulfilling your mission in the world is God’s fifth purpose for your life.”
