The Lord Needs It ~ November 14, 2007

Think About it:

Did you know Jesus talked more about money and possessions than almost any other topic? There seems to be a powerful link between our stuff (treasures) and the Kingdom of God; between things and our relationship with God. But why?

Explore it:

1. What are your treasures? (Treasures are those things to which we assign great value, we guard or tie personal energy to.)

2. What do your treasures reveal?

3. Why do you think Jesus talked so much about “treasures”?

4. Read Matthew 6:19-24

5. What is your reaction to this statement: “When you get close to someone’s treasure, you’ve gotten very close the core of their soul.” --Ortberg, Pursuing Spiritual Transformation, p.81.

6. Do your treasures get to the core of your soul? Have your treasures “shaped” your heart? How so?

7. In the sermon, there were three things revealed that the Lord ‘needs’: You, your gifts and your resources. Chances are, many of these are your treasures too. How are you challenged to fully give God these three things? How do you “hold on” to these treasures? What would it mean to fully give God your heart and submit all your treasures to him?

8. What are some next steps for you in regards to your treasures? How can the group help in this regard?
