Evidences or a Supreme Makeover    ~    November 7, 2007

Think About it:

On every reality makeover TV show, there is tremendous and overwhelming evidence that a change has been made to the person or home in question.  If we as Christians are being transformed and madeover to look more like Christ, shouldn’t there be evidence of such a change?  Do people around you know you have been or are being madeover?  Maybe yes, maybe no?  The Bible gives us a picture of fruit to describe the changes that happen within.  We are told to bear much fruit; that a tree is known by its fruit; and we know that we have received the Spirit—who transforms our live,  The Spirit’s fruit is described like this:

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  Against such things there is no law.     Galatians 5:22-23

As this fruit takes hold in our lives, we will see evidence in our daily character, attitudes and actions. Two realities and results of a fruit-bearer’s life would be that of selflessness and celebration.

What fruit (actual fruit like an apple) would best describe you?  Why?

Read Luke 15:11-30

  1. Who are the characters in this story?  Briefly describe each one.

  1. In your own words, describe the differences between the two brothers.

  1. Should the “other brother” have been so upset?  Why?  After all, he was obedient, remained with the father, worked hard, and never asked for to much…sound like a “good Christian” doesn’t it?

  1. What do we learn about the father’s love…God’s love…from this parable?

  1. Honestly, which brother are you most of the time?  What must you learn from this lesson?

How would these two things look TODAY if they were truly bearing the fruit of selflessness and celebration?
